Skelton Grange is part of The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), a national charity which brings together people and communities across the UK with the goal of “connecting people and green spaces to deliver lasting outcomes for both”. By offering outreach sessions, educational visits, training and fun events to schools, adults and community groups, Skelton Grange plays an important role in encouraging and supporting local people to volunteer in conservation activities, helping people to connect with nature, and educating communities about how they can get involved in environmental initiatives in their local area.
The DIRICKX Systems team was given the opportunity to put their repair and maintenance skills to the test, with tasks ranging from removing some old steps to rebuilding a vegetable garden, and - perhaps unsurprisingly - fixing some broken fences.
Operations Director Adam Robinson said: “At DIRICKX Systems, CSR is more than just a box-ticking exercise; as a local business, we understand the importance of supporting local environmental initiatives. We’re proud to be part of such a valuable community outreach project, and to be playing our part in transforming outdoor spaces for local people to enjoy. A big thank you to the team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre for inviting us. Not only was it extremely rewarding to be involved in such a worthwhile project for the local community, we also had a great day and really enjoyed the opportunity to connect as a team outside the workplace."
TCV’s Hannah Carmyllie added: “Preserving our green spaces is something that can make a meaningful difference to the people that live in Leeds, which is why we’re grateful to the team from DIRICKX Systems for volunteering their time at Skelton Grange. They really threw themselves into the challenge and got stuck in - it’s incredible what they achieved in just one day! As a registered charity, we’re heavily reliant on the generosity of volunteers and local businesses, so we hope to see them back here again next year!”
Leeds is home to the original earth-filled, ground-mounted expeditionary barrier system, and is an important part of the DIRICKX Systems identity. As a local business, DIRICKX Systems is committed to improving the local area, supporting environmental projects and making a difference in any way possible.
